The Table of Remembrance
"For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes."
— 1 Corinthians 11:26
This story of Hosea and Gomer is a reminder of the price paid for our redemption. This price is what we remember every time we partake in Holy Communion. It is not a casual tradition, but a sacred encounter with the body and blood of Christ.
The Bible gives us a vital warning regarding how we approach His table:
"Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep [have died]."
— 1 Corinthians 11:27–30 (NKJV)
Every time you take the bread, remember His body that was shredded for your healing. Every time you take the cup, remember His blood that was poured out to buy you back from the auction block of sin.
Do not take it lightly. Taken with a heart of faith and repentance, it is a source of health, restoration, and life. But taken without discerning the gravity of His sacrifice, it carries the weight of judgment.
